ROBERT G. ELMORE

Robert G. Elmore born in 1831 in Monroe County, Georgia, and died July 8, 1865, in Fort Monroe, Virginia at U.S.A. General Hospital, at the age of 34. Robert G. Elmore married Henrietta (Harriet) Brown-Elmore on September 15, 1851, in Henry County, Alabama. To their marriage four sons and three daughters were born:
1. Willis E. Elmore born December 25, 1852.
2. Elizabeth Elmore born 1854.
3. George Elmore born 1856.
4. Jefferson Elmore born 1858.
5. Emma J. Elmore born 1860.
6. Fannie Elmore born 1863.
7. Robert George Elmore born February 15, 1865.
Robert G. Elmore received a land patent issued August 1, 1853, for 40 acres of land in Henry County, Alabama, where his family was born.
Robert G. Elmore enlisted as Private, in Alabama Co. D, 8th Ala Inf Reg. CSA during the Civil War. He died in U.S.A. General Hospital, Fort Monroe, Virginia on July 8, 1865, at the age of 34 years old. He was buried in Hampton National Cemetery in Virginia with 272 other Confederate Soldiers who died during the Civil War. He is buried in Plot 2187, and his name enscribed incorrectly as R.G. Elnion, but his descendant, Amanda Elmore-Taylor has recently had the office records corrected to reflect his correct name, but was told that the actual CSA headstone was of historical subject and could not be changed.
