JESSE J. ELMORE was born September 1, 1832 in Greene County, Georgia, and died February 20, 1916 in Geneva County, Alabama. Jesse was the son of Mathew Elmore (1792 NC) and Lucinda (Lucy) Tait-Elmore. He married Prescilla Golden-Elmore on January 15, 1856, in Henry County, Alabama. She was born in 1840 in Georgia. Jesse J. Elmore enlisted in the military during the Civil War at Campbellton, Florida, Jackson County as Private, Co. F, 11th Florida Regiment and continued service until wounded at Petersburg, VA, September 24, 1864, he was admitted to General Hospital, Howard's Grove, Richmond, VA, on September 26, 1864, furloughed home to Campbellton, Florida, Jackson County, on November 20, 1864, and did not return to the Civil War.
Jesse had fair complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, and was listed as being 5ft 8 inches tall on his military card. Jesse J. Elmore died in Geneva County, Alabama and is buried in Historic Shilo Baptist Church Cemetery, near Hartford, Alabama next to his wife Prescilla Golden-Elmore who died May 3, 1913. Many of his family are also buried in this Historic Cemetery.
Jesse J. Elmore was issued a land patent for 40.01 acres of land on August 30, 1897, for lnd NWNW Sec/Block 35/2-N in the St. Stephens, Geneva, Alabama area. Authority: May 20, 1862: Homestead Entry Original (12 Stat. 392).

Annie Jane married Edwin Harrison Hendrix January 12, 1873, in Jackson County, Florida. To their marriage one daughter was born:
